Ice boom

Drove by lake Erie yesterday and there was ice still at Erie PA. When do they remove the ice boom and how long will it take to clear the ice?

the boom will be coming out soon there is roughly 976 square miles of ice ,it has to be close to 250 square miles of ice before it can be removed I think it takes a couple of days

A big blow of SW winds of 60+ MPH is coming shortly and it will move the ice to Buffalo and even over the top of the boom.

With this strong wind the lake level on our end is up quite a bit allowing the ice to push over the boom. So it is possible that it did not break. The areas in your pictures were totally ice free yesterday.

Apparently it didnt break as per the webcam image but there still is a small break in it letting ice flow....50mph gusts again tmrw

As of this Am  the cam shows ice boom still in & intact.

Yesterday off Point Breeze, Angola, no open water was visible. Still a lot of ice out there.
