yellowpike Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 I been making my own for years want to start using wire what type of wire do you guys use. Thanks John Sent from my VS986 using Lake Erie United Mobile App
lineman49 Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 I have been using Torpedo coated leader wire(black) 55# test. or AFW bleeding leader wire(red) 30# test with crimps. Fishkiller sells the topedo wire. 1
Youngblood Posted March 4, 2018 Report Posted March 4, 2018 I have a bulk spool of Sevalon 27# test coated 7 wire.It is copper colored stainless. I think it will work very well.Very flexible and holds a knot well.I would trade wire for some finished harnesses.I have been using it for years for wire divers.
yellowpike Posted March 4, 2018 Author Report Posted March 4, 2018 I think we can work something out here a few of some of the I tie a few years ago I tie all my own now let me know what you lie 1
wojo Posted March 8, 2018 Report Posted March 8, 2018 I been making my own for years want to start using wire what type of wire do you guys use. Thanks John Sent from my VS986 using Lake Erie United Mobile App Why would you want to use wire? The harnesses look more natural with mono.Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Mobile App
Youngblood Posted March 8, 2018 Report Posted March 8, 2018 The wire I have is so light and flexible it will be about the same as mono. Last longer, more zebra mussel resistant and easier to store. IMO 1
garrymny Posted April 14, 2018 Report Posted April 14, 2018 Why couldn't you use wire fishing line, like we use on dipsey rods?Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Erie United Mobile App

Canuknucklehead Posted April 21, 2018 Report Posted April 21, 2018 How long are your harnesses, how far apart are your hooks, do you ever use 2 blades on a harness?

I cant speak for everyone but my hooks are about 4 inches apart and as far as blades I have tied a bunch of double blades but since I don't have a lot of confidence In them they don't see as much time in the water as my single blades ( not saying they don't work everything has a time and place ) I have a regular program and when I start to change that fishing is slow. I fish late June to September around Barcelona and run 6 rods 4 harnesses ( a lot of gold ) and 2 rapala taildancers ( purpledecent and a custom painted wonderbread ) sorry to be so long winded but I hope this helps... Paul
Canuknucklehead Posted April 21, 2018 Report Posted April 21, 2018 Thanks, I fish off of Port Colborne.
Fishnut Posted April 22, 2018 Report Posted April 22, 2018 Why couldn't you use wire fishing line, like we use on dipsey rods?Sent from my XT1030 using Lake Erie United Mobile AppYou can. I’ve tied several with 30# dipsy wire. I usually get several seasons out of them. When the hooks need replaced I cut them apart and re-rig them. When I use wire I use aluminum crimps on them. jimski2 Posted April 22, 2018 Report Posted April 22, 2018 I use 20# fluorocarbon and tie the hooks with palomar knots. 2/0 hooks to hold on to the big girls.
