J. Sparrow Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 (edited) https://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/anim.php?lake=e¶m=icecon&type=n Lake Erie Ice Cover - She looks pretty locked up! Hopefully, it'll lead to another good year for good spawning conditions and fry survival! I think the "downside" to this will be additional predation pressure on the perch fishery..... https://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/modis.php?region=e&page=1&template=sub&image=a1.18038.1818.LakeErie.143.250m.jpg Edited February 8, 2018 by J. Smelt and mostly Goby. We stopped using blades that mimic perch, blades like fire tiger, and now use Goby color blades and spoons. White pink to mimic smelt. So I'm not worried the eyes will decimate the perch. Now Jimski. And Herb...they can decimate the perchSent from my ASUS ZenFone 2E using Lake Erie United Mobile App
Bills25 Posted March 7, 2018 Report Posted March 7, 2018 That ice coverage a few years back really produced a good walleye hatch which is definitely noticeable on Erie. But Chautauquas Waller population was hurting before that and those 2 years the walleye hatch was amazing on the lake and now the walleye fishing is better than I have seen in my life which is roughly 20 years.Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
jimski2 Posted March 11, 2018 Report Posted March 11, 2018 Walleye success is dependent on perch population and their predation on walleye fry and fingerlings. We must maintain a balanced population in the lake. There you go.Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
