greg2ha Posted June 30, 2017 Report Posted June 30, 2017 Just recently purchased marine radio for my boat and looking for advice on antennas. Looking to go as small as possible but still have decent reception. I bought a Uniden UM380. I purchased it from Amazon which at the bottom of page said customers also purchased this antenna to go with it. It looked decent but had a connector for an antenna for a car stereo. Not the PL-259 plug style. Any help would be awesome. I'm new to this marine radio stuff. Thanks guysGreg Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Mobile App
mr 580 Posted July 1, 2017 Report Posted July 1, 2017 With VHF radios being line of sight, antenna height is important. Common length is 8' when mounting on the gunnels. If going on a hardtop or t top, 4' length works fine. Either way you'll want a mount that allows antenna to fold down for transport. Shakespeare offers a pretty complete line of marine antennas.
