Pipe Wrench Posted May 23, 2017 Report Posted May 23, 2017 Trolling plate I just bought a trolling plate and i was not able to install as the instructions showed. The out-drive was to wide for the angle bar to slide under. So i mounted on top. It works fine - just looks "not normal."I called the manufacturer and he said that this is the largest one that they make and it will not fit all out-drives. Anyone ever hear of this before?
mostlymuskies Posted May 23, 2017 Report Posted May 23, 2017 I had bad luck years back with using a trolling plate. In high waves and strong winds, the trolling plate got bent and twisted, this caused me lots of problems with boat control, pulling off to one side.Limped in riding waves. So if I can't get slow enough now I use drift socks tied off the bow cleats to get down to 1.5 mph on glass flat water days.Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Erie United Mobile App
Locoman Posted May 23, 2017 Report Posted May 23, 2017 Trolling bags are the only way to go. Plates reduce the amount of thrust which can cause problems in windy conditions. Check out Amish Outfitters beefy bags. Have had mine for ten years and they are still going strong.
backoneerie2016 Posted May 24, 2017 Report Posted May 24, 2017 Also look at big papa trolling bags. I have them.Sent from my XT1650 using Lake Erie United Mobile App
