Pipe Wrench Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 Lead Core Size I need a little guidance with lead core line. I have read that one color of lead core is 10 yards - 30'. With that being said - I am in the process of "getting my rods / reels ready" for this upcoming season. I measured my "one color" with my level wind reel - it came out to be 55' long for one color. To me - I don't understand how "one color" is 55' long when on the package of lead core line it states - Color Metered-10 yards. I am using Mason lead core line - 27 LB. Do I have the correct line? What am I doing wrong? Any and all information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and sharing information!
mr 580 Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 10 colors of leadcore is 100 yards or 300 feet so each color is 10 yards or 30 feet. Not sure how you are measuring with a level wind reel? My guess is that is where your problem is. Try measuring your leadcore with a tape measure for one color and I bet it's much closer to 30'. Level wind reels with line counters will vary depending on how full your spool on the reel is filled. It is best to fill your reels full and to consider the counter number as a "number" for repeatability not necessarily an accurate measuring tool. Hope this makes sense.
Dmd113 Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 That's why we don't put leadcore on line counter reels. Measure by color & add snap weights when needing to get deeper.
