jimski2 Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 (edited) Years ago the favorite spot for early spring perch fishing was off Smokes Creek near the slag piles.. There were hundreds of boats there at this early condition. This area is where the Buffalo Harbor dredging material was dumped and mostly sediments where the critters that perch eat are at. The slag forms a good base for the perch eggs to mature. Seneca shoals off shore three miles due west was a good shale bottom to attract spawning fish in the spring also. When the water temperature reaches above 55 degrees the perch will move off shore to deeper water. Edited April 24, 2017 by jimski2
peas247 Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 Water was 44ish...it was pure combat fishing yesterday...with everyone now using spotlock / gps bowmounts it was like bumper boats...not to funSent from my SM-G930P using Lake Erie United Mobile App

My Way Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 It seems odd that they're catching early spring perch up there, while down here you don't generally start hearing talk of perch until July.
yankmyline Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 Are the perch being caught spawned out or they just spawning now?
yellowpike Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 A few I we caught yesterday were half spawned out Sent from my VS986 using Lake Erie United Mobile App

trapper Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 John I couldn't agree with you more I was alone at a spot for over three hrs then a boat drove out to see if I was catching then called someone on phone and the whole fleet came from in front of sp one guy actually hit my boat with his anchor get his insurance info I don't think he will do that again . we left and went and found our own spot again where we took a 5 man limit our limit is 30 per person this is working out just fine so far but back to the people being considerate their is a lot of room don't crowd the guy that did the work and force him out or hit his or her boat even after all this we were still off water by 1 pm fishing is much better people when you find a school where there are no people so people instead of relying on the crowd try to find some for yourself you will be rewarded greatly thanks Brent 1
trapper Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 Ps Im offering my clients a discount to not fish the weekends and take a during the week trip to avoid the crowds 2
peas247 Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 We made the run saturday with the chop and there was only 6 boats....every kept there space...worked the schools it was great...we called it day at 70Sent from my SM-G930P using Lake Erie United Mobile App 1

It's the down time that kills you. Chartered for 25+ yrs. I know what that is like. Had some guys last spring that tied up just about on top of me. I could easily have put my fish in their cooler. I had to move off with the minn kota.
trapper Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 Just canceled out for today the clients did not want to fish in the rain told them that their wont be anyone else out there any body want to go fishing we will have lots of room 1
