Years ago the favorite spot for early spring perch fishing was off Smokes Creek near the slag piles.. There were hundreds of boats there at this early condition. This area is where the Buffalo Harbor dredging material was dumped and mostly sediments where the critters that perch eat are at. The slag forms a good base for the perch eggs to mature. Seneca shoals off shore three miles due west was a good shale bottom to attract spawning fish in the spring also. When the water temperature reaches above 55 degrees the perch will move off shore to deeper water.

we fished sunday came out of hamburg headed towards st pt but we found fish close to hamburg didn't have to deal combats fishing or the slinkers as we call them its took us awhile to find fish and to get anchor on them you guys need to have little repect  for the guys who go out and find the fish instead of poaching others fish its not hard to do that's whats Electronics are for not trying to bash anybody but you got to play nice out there a lot of fish out just find them :emoticon-0167-beer:    John

John I couldn't agree with you more I was alone at a spot for over three hrs then a boat drove out to see if I was catching then called someone on phone and the whole fleet came from in front of sp one guy actually hit my boat with his anchor get his insurance info I don't think he will do that again . we left and went and found our own spot again where we took a 5 man limit our limit is 30 per person this is working out just fine so far but back to the people being considerate their is a lot of room don't crowd the guy that did the work and force him out or hit his or her boat even after all this we were still off water by 1 pm fishing is much better people when you find a school where there are no people so people instead of relying on the crowd try to find some for yourself you will be rewarded greatly thanks Brent

Too bad about the boat. It's the down time that kills you. Chartered for 25+ yrs. I know what that is like. Had some guys last spring that tied up just about on top of me. I could easily have put my fish in their cooler. I had to move off with the minn kota.
