wojo Posted March 7, 2016 Report Posted March 7, 2016 Reports have it , that there were boats out of Sturgeon Point yesterday fishimg for perch. if any one knows how they made out , please post. They suppose to dredge the harbor this spring which means that when they do, the harbor will be closed.
lineman49 Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 Looks like 1/2 the ice boom is out already!
lineman49 Posted March 14, 2016 Report Posted March 14, 2016 Drove to SP sat. pm., the launch docks are in, counted 10-12 boats out to the west. Talked to one guy he said it was slow & cold but they (3 guys) ended up with 55 nice fish. Boats were going in & out of the harbor with no problem, the opening seemed free of sandbar.
wojo Posted March 15, 2016 Author Report Posted March 15, 2016 Found out today, that Sturgeon point will not be dredged this year. That means that it will remain open for the rest of the season. It is 5 ft. Deep at present. A bit of warning, that could change as the water level lowers, keep you motors raised when going out.
J. Sparrow Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 Lineman..... did the fisherman with 55 say how deep they got fish? What depth is good to target this early in the season?
Locoman Posted March 18, 2016 Report Posted March 18, 2016 I start my spring perch search in 35 fow. I also start my day drifting. Hope this helps.
lineman49 Posted March 18, 2016 Report Posted March 18, 2016 He didn't say the depth but he was to the west with the other boats. We usually start about 45-50 fow this time of yr.
J. Sparrow Posted March 19, 2016 Report Posted March 19, 2016 Thanks for the info guys...... I'm sure everybody's itchin. I know I am......

yellowpike Posted March 21, 2016 Report Posted March 21, 2016 was there yesterday no docks in yet and the water pretty low
wojo Posted March 22, 2016 Author Report Posted March 22, 2016 Had talked to two individuals that were out last week and had taken 126 perch between three guys. They went out of Sturgeon Point. Be careful went going out of the harbor, It is only 3 1/2 ft. And high water. Make sure you raise your motor up when passing through, to be on the safe side.

wojo Posted March 26, 2016 Author Report Posted March 26, 2016 Fished two hrs out of Sturgeon Pt. caught 45 jumbos. Could have caught our limit if 100 with no problems. Hate to see these big sows laden with eggs being caught. When you bring them up and their bladder is coming out of their mouths , they will not survive if returned to the water. About 35boats congregated in one area. All fish were jumbos, no small runts.
lineman49 Posted April 28, 2016 Report Posted April 28, 2016 FYI, as of 3 pm today there was one dock in at the Catt. ck. state launch site.
