TO LOCATE A GOOD PERCH FISHING SPOT,   Notice a boat catching yellow perch. Lake Erie is like a river on the bottom  and the scent of bait such as minnows hold and lead the perch under your boat as long as there is plenty of minnows under your boat' Head boat crowds put plenty of scent on the bottom and the best place on them to fish is the stern corner of an anchored head boat. The trail of bait scent on the bottom currents lead the fish schools there first. Plenty of bait under the boat holds the perch there as long as their is plenty of minnows nearby. New York laws allow an angler the use of three lines per angler. On the three lines five hooks may be baited with minnows, there for a small boat may have fifteen minnows and if three anglers are aboard. then a school of minnows up to 45 minnows can lure and hold the school under your boat. Having another boat nearby increases your opportunities so just beware that anchor lines become tangled.  With a fifty perch daily limit per angler, keep them separate in an ice filled bucket to identify your catch. Live wells with warm lake surface waters will cause the fish to begin to spoil. The eyes will not be clear and the gills will not be bright red colored.

The daily limit of yellow perch is fifty perch but a non separate perch catch will bring a citation that you can see a judge usually at an inconvenient time.

Usually, we drift with heavy sinkers in 100 foot bottoms over humps out there in Cook Inlet or at other offshore areas. Hauling in an anchor is with a winch available on the boat.
