Fished saturday 6:00 AM, rumor on the launch was good walleye fishing in 90fow.  Setup in 80 ft a little west with worm harnesses and put the rigger with the probe in first and was a little shocked to see 49 degrees at 60 ft down. Looked like bait on the bottom and the top. Ran baits top to bottom. after a couple hours of some releases and no fish move to 60 fow  and east, no temp break and started to find fish. Would have liked to stay but with an open boat the heat and sun got us off the water with two 15 inch walleyes . Maybe the 90 fow worked for some, not us.

Fished NW of port this morning. Started in 75fow, found 51* down 50’. Decided to go deep to find stable water and better temps. Hooked 3 lake trout, landed a 17#, broke one off, and pulled the hook on another. Once we hit 120fow we found 65* down 60’ and the eyes started chewing. Lots of marks and lots of bait. Put 17 keepers in the boat in less than 2 hours. Threw back 1 short, lost a few more. Finished up in 140fow. Rained most of the time and it got pretty nasty out there. Shut it down when one of the guests buried a treble hook in his hand. I’ve never fished in that deep of water for walleye before.

Last time for me was last Thursday out in front of the Catt. Fished from 2 till dusk with 2 leadcore lines and harnesses. Landed 5 keepers, 7 perch. Lost a few eyes on the fight. Best screens were in 58 to 64 fow. There was a wind shift from SE to NE just as we got started. I think it cooled a good bite from earlier that morning. Good luck. I heard 80 feet was productive from guys at the launch.

Fished out of Dunkirk this weekend.  Ended up with 23 keepers, 4 Friday night, 12 fish limit Saturday and 7 Sunday.  Got a late start Sunday, but still did OK from 10:30 to 1:30 with fish from 16 to 25.5" (picture).  Fished in 62 FOW.  Lost 3 tanks. Heard there was a hot bite deeper, but not complaining. 25 pounds of fillets will fill the freezer.  Stickbaits early and harnesses later worked for us.  Also 2 perch, a big catfish and 2 monster drum.

Picked away yesterday NE or port, 94-96fow was best. 70.6* from surface to down 70’ after the wind on Tuesday. Worms were better than sticks. Riggers were quiet other than popping and letting them flutter while over schools of fish.

Fished 80-105fow this morning and found that the east wind pulled in a bunch of cold water. Found 50* water down 50’ with 64* surface temps. Lake trout and steelhead were active. Found a pocket of decent water temps in 72-76fow with a couple straggler fish on their way back to Ohio that gave us a little action. Covered a lot of water this morning in order to determine that the party is over. There may be some warm stable water left somewhere west of Dunkirk but not from Dunkirk east back to the Catt. Hope this helps for anyone debating on trying to fish this weekend.

Saturday 9/30- With the lighter winds the warm water was back.  For my last trip from Dunkirk ended with 13 walleye and a nice steelhead.  Good number of boats out and the fish cleaning station was busy.  Best water for me was 90 to 100 a bit west.  Should be plenty of fish around as long as weather stays decent.
