Lake Erie ice field shows open waters off Sturgeon Point but ice scattered near by. Cattaraugus Creek was open from ice  but boat ramps docks were not in yet. Good perch fishing after ice out is usually near shore in side 55 foot of water on the shale bottom.

Catt trailer boat ramps, yesterday no docks in at at the state ramp, town ramp or Hidden Harbor Ramp. Waders or hip boots might help put your boat in.

Barcelona ramp has no docks in also.

Dunkirk ramp no report.

Scattered ice off shore from Point Breeze.

Good catches of perch and walleyes through the ice off the Catt before the walleye season closing on March 15.

Pennsylvania's Northeast Marina ramps were closed with no docks. There walleye season is current with New York's but the limit is six in season with a minimum size limit of 15 inches. Their perch limit is 30 fish and a seven inch minimum size. But the bad new is a non resident fishing license and a special Lake Erie fishing permit also. Then also be prepared for importing fish and bait regulations, covid tests from out of state travel especially returning to New York State.

As someone who lives on the ny pa border I assure you there is no covid tests for driving between states. Have to stay over 24 hours to even consider one and Cuomo lifted restrictions April 1 also.

Launched from the Catt Sunday about noon, looked for perch all the way to Sturgeon Point while dodging icebergs and breaking the floating ice sheet.  Found a few small schools in 55ft off Evangola but could'nt buy a bite. Drove back west of the Catt toward Dunkirk and found HUGE schools in 60ft but no bites.  Left at 5:00pm.  Did'nt see any rods moving around us and everyone we talked to at the launch also got Skunked.  Hopefully better luck this weekend. There we alot of boats out, all parking spots at State launch full.

Sat 3/27. Left the Catt at 1:45pm with low hopes after everyone leaving the launch got skunked.  Burned up a tank of gas lookin for perch past Sturgeon Point and found none. Fished till 6:45pm. The only other boat at the launch when we left, picked up 10 in front of Evangola from 5:45-6:45pm, he said not a bite until then. Our day was saved by a giant Catfish caught in 60ft, West of Port. Alot of fun on 8lb test. It was a cold but smooth and sunny day on the lake.

The harvest of yellow perch here helps balance the walleye and bass reproduction. Also unharvested perch are added to the Ontario total allowable commercial harvest to keep the perch numbers down. This keeps our imports down.

Was out yesterday. 55 fow, in front of sturgeon point. Also got a big catfish, walleye and white bass. Ended with 34 as that was all I wanted to clean. Good action, moved around a bit to see what else we could find. Did find some more closer to catt creek where we launched, but best rhythm was our first spot in front of sturgeon. Wish they would get it together and fix that place. It sucks fishing right in front of it and not being able to use it.IMG_20210406_144520081_HDR.jpegIMG_20210406_090452098.jpegIMG_20210406_091231234.jpeg

To have a resource like Lake Erie, and a facility like the marina at Sturgeon Point..... and have that all go stagnant is unforgivable. The local politicians should be embarrassed beyond their terms. They should be replaced for allowing this to happen.

1:30 PM today had over 50 boat trailers in the Hanover Town boat Ramp. Most boats were cleaning large catches of large perch. Lake Erie was like glass out there this afternoon. With the fine weather weekend fishermen will have a tough time parking. Maybe the contractor will be clear of the State Ramp which was blocked closed today.
