Goodday
i was wondering what everyone thought of the wind turbines on lake eria
They are saying there will be environmental harm to the fishery.
i don’t see it.
i do see the turbines but not as an eyesore.
i do see clean free power that will lessen our dependence on foreign oil, and power.
there will be some harm due to oil leakage and bases being built.
the freighter leak oil, crate junk ( habitat) in the bottom of the lake and bring in evasive species.
Nobody  complains about skyscrapers or grain mills which to me are just as much an eye sore.
lets built American independence and keep American dollars in America
please post your opinion in comments

My opinion, JoJo you're a no go. Wind turbines DO NOT belong in Lake Erie. They are a bad enough eyesore on land. What qualifies you to state there will be no harm to the fishery?

Goodday Locoman
What I meant they are no worse then the harm freighters , two stroke motors
And evasive species are.
They do create habitat in the gulf the radio towers are fish magnets?
Eyesore is an opinion?
Dependence on foreign power is a fact?
Thanks for the reply

Putting them in the lake would require building their bases in the lake. That will disrupt and stir up all kinds of nasty toxic stuff that has settled over many years and is now under layers of sediment on the lake bottom. All those chemicals will then be back in our drinking water. That point in itself should be more than enough to say no way to wind turbines in the lake.

Freighters come and go, turbines would be permanent. Some invasive species have not been as harmful as first thought. Perch, walleye, and bass are eating them up. You cannot compare the Gulf in any way to the Great Lakes system. Wayyyy different. Our dependence on foreign power is at an all time low thanks to our President. Right now the US is the number one producer of oil in the whole wide world.

Diversion is right on with his post.

JoJo,
There are already 13 (2.5 MW) windmills on the old steel plant property.
This question is for everyone who is out on the lake fishing.
How many out of the 13 do yo see turning?
Maybe six?
The rest of them Do Not work.
That's because the company just walked away from them.
That's because of the dirty language that's in the windmill laws: allowing the company's to walk away after 10 years, leaving the responsibility to the property owners.
Let the fatcats of government handouts (like Musk) repair the units that are already here before we discuss more.
The grid infrastructure is also already there.
What about the quarter mile radius around each structure that will be offlimits to boaters.
BAD idea Jo.

Canada has installed thousands of windmills on the near shore of all the Great Lakes there. They are years ahead of the USA. Fresh water lakes in a good blow will fall over due too icings. Just take a look on the Canadian shoreline at night, those red lights are wind mills. The local government receives taxes from them, not the downstate politicians.

Lightning strikes at three thousand degree heat will burn the insulation off the generators and wiring. Living on the lake shore for thirty years now I have watched thousands of lightning strikes for years now. Who will pay for the repairs on the water sites.  At least landside installations are accessible for repairs and ther are hundreds of empty hilltops available with high winds.

A lot of local workers are employed building windmills on shore here. Landowners receive revenue from onshore windmills . Offshore windmills create nonaccess to boaters. Repairs and maintenance costs are extreme with off shore  windmills.
