  7. For cranks/sticks the preferred clear coat is Devcon 2 ton epoxy and that stuff is not coming off ever! For blades I use this its a solvent based clear that's compatible with the water based http://www.shopwurthusa.com/wurthstorefront/Chemical-Product/Paints/Lacquers/Spray-Clear-Coat-12-Fl-Oz/p/18930191 Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  8. Testors is cheap and you have to thin it down stinks like hell if using indoors but colors are readily avaliable. I switched to com-art or auto air there water based acrylics ready to shoot without thinning and clean up easy they also have translucent colors that are nice for layering/blending on sticks. The only box store local that carries them is hobby lobby tho Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  9. I gave up on the riggers as well and run extra dipsys instead. although the biggest eye ever on my boat came off a rigger with a 2 color core "swr" and a black renosky. My top 3 sticks 1. Perch color chatterstick 2. Metallic blue jr. Tstick 3. Smelt Rick klun Classic Harnesses 1. Copper watermelon 2. Blue/silver 3. Firetiger Those are usually my first 6 rods untill the fish tell me what they like Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  10. You want the knot in the water so if your using inlines you can set them pretty close If your using big boards/mast your going to run out a bit depending on the situation. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  11. Yes you pay at Barcelona and everywhere else for that matter, I can't think of any "camps" from buffalo to Barcelona like others said hotel and trailers the best option. Maybe a cottage in Angola with a dock on Cattaragus creek but I don't think it's cheap by any means Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  12. How bad was the sand anything to worry about? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  13. When I buy new blades I don't do anything, and the only time I prime it's more of a base coat application. You will notice some colors are more translucent the fluorescents change quite a bit unless you spray it over white You just have to play around a little bit Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  14. Thanks guys, pap I use the testors enamel " model paint" it has a little better coverage and the color selection is outstanding from metallics to fluorescent!
  15. This picture is why blade baits are priceless. Fishing on the perch grounds and a big hook shows up on the graph! I leave a blade hooked up hanging off the bow roughly half way down in 50-60 ft every now and then or when that hook show up drop it snap-snap-pause - snap=hooked up!!!
  16. Here's a few of my basement blades. Altho I've been buying blades lately instead of painting them it sure helps pass the winter blues!
  17. Pap snaps will work just fine, early season I run 1.5 ish #3-4Colorado and sticks...later in the year when the water warms up and the fish get deeper I like 1.8-2 and run more hatchet blades, whiptails and #4-5 colorados. Always a mix of sticks and harnesses so speeds the same for both. Colors I always put out first are black/purple fire tiger copper/watermelon or orange, blue/silver, black chartruse stripe
  18. It's a cool experience that's for sure. Band rockin at the bar fireworks at the ball park!! Fish on!!
  19. Guys do cast from shore in the spring but I'm definitely not the guy to answer any questions about that!
  20. as far as sticks go I like anything with a aggressive wobble. My best bait the past couple years has been a live target smelt followed by yozuri, reef runners and jointed raps. If your in buffalo the smokes creek area is the place to be early on as our local school spawns fishing can be tremendous between the windmills and Hamburg. As the year progresses I focus more on the windmill area anywhere from 12-25 fow. Word of caution on a calm warm moonlight night it's not unusual to see 100+ boats packed in a tiny area. Some of them don't have lights or care if they turn square in front of you 20 ft away.

  22. Great point, don't just sit in the pack for no reason! The edge of the school is so defined some days it's crazy. The fish will be 5 ft thick and 20 ft away it's a barren wasteland! If your not catching them move.
