  1. Use your graph to find rocks, humps and structure on the shale bottom that indicate fish also. Usually less than 52 foot of water. Drop shot rigs are the best for artificial use or better yet are shiners drifted on the bottom will make your day. Fish from west of Point Gratiot to the Brockton Shoal area past Van Buren Point. You should do good there. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  2. Black flies, horse flies and deer flies are around the water and even golf courses here. As I stated, long sleeve fishing shirts and long pants with socks will help you survive. Look at the Florida fishing shows and see how they dress especially to protect themselves from the sun cancer and bugs. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  3. Phone call for entry is almost not needed now BUT night crawlers in US soil not allowed, only in water, no anchoring, no alcohol, flare pistols have to have plastic barrels, licenses, both fishing and Conservation, fuel to report for inspection and return and many more possible infractions such as DWI arrests, child support arrears, felony arrests, safety equipment and anything to soak more USA dollars from you. If you are ordered for inspection only the Captain can leave the boat, all others are to remain on board. And things can still get worse. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  4. We complain about the swarms of bugs on the lake driving you off the water. Consider that their presence is an indication of healthy water and a good forage base for our fish there. For your comfort wear long sleeve shirts and long pants. There are light weight clothes made to protect you from the sun and bugs. It is really stupid to wear Bermuda shorts out there and have the flies eat your legs as they suck your blood. The infection possibilities are also to be considered. Protect your self. 5. Large lures catch large fish. Worms and small lures catch good eaters. Another fisherman I met took 150 walleye for the contest near the PA border, none over seven pounds. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  6. An "old timer" would use ranges from onshore structures in his oar powered 14 foot boat. Holding two bottom bouncers in his hands with the oars he would work his marks and catch walleyes. He would slide his fish over the transom with no net showing. Then he spun the boat around on a dime and returned to his spot where he caught the last fish. No one was shown anything. No graphs, chart plotters, trolling motors, just his spot he knew. Most important was if you fished with him and you went to a different bar, you were shunned forever as you would brag of your success and nosy people would crowd your spot. 7. My take on the fishing lately is all the Easterly/ Northeasterly/Southeasterly winds for the past week is upwelling of colder water from deep colder depths moved the walleyes and others back down the lake to Pennsylvania, Ohio and central basin areas. One group landed sixty walleyes in a day over the PA line. The smallest fish was 7.5 pounds. Today's strong southwest blow should return things to normal. By the way I noticed the the tiger lilies are starting to show their buds so the blossoms are soon to be out. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  8. All the male dairy cows are castraited and made into steers. After eighteen months they are made into tender steaks and other meals. Old dairy cows are made into "canners" and turned into baloney, hot dogs and burgers. The good eaters are the young bucks. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  9. Do not try to force your misconstrued moral attitude on the public. We fish for food, not your idealistic views. A balanced harvest of all species is needed for good management of the lake. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  10. Take the bridge over and launch in Canada and avoid all the cell phone trauma. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  11. We trolled from east of Meyers reef to west of Sturgeon Point, 50 to 45 foot of water, with sixlines and harnesses and stickbaits. One 24 inch walleye and a 26 inch sheep head both taken on a Renosky stickbaits. Northeast winds and high clouds. Just another tough day out there. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  12. The Southtowns Walleye Tournament 2017 daily leader board is listed on line. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  13. The wave heights are actually higher than the displayed number. As the wave passed over the buoy it does not reach the high point or conversely the low point. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  14. Jerry Driscoll Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Smelt water, not an emerald shiner water, from deep water.
  15. Yesterday one boat off the Catt, 8 perch. One boat off Sturgeon Point, 40 perch, 50 foot of water, all alone. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  16. Fished yesterday morning, from Sturgeon Point to Wendt Beach area. Fifty foot to thirty foot depths. The screen showed only a dozen large hooks after three hours. Bluebird sky, east wind, crystal clear water. All bad deals. Boat ran good though. Water temperatures were around 60 degrees. Any perch on the screen were between 40 and 48 foot on the shale and holding tight to the bottom. One boat reported eight perch taken off Fox Point. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  17. Hybrid stripers are sterile and not reproductive. As for a good fight they are not using reproductive energy, just good fighting energy. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  18. For a non chemical control of lampreys we could stick striped bass in the lake. Eels are a favorite bait for stripers and they reach weights of sixty pounds which will give you a good tussle. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  19. This is a perfect reason for a trailer boat organization to be organized. Not just fishing club guys, but family cruisers, jet ski boaters, small sail boaters and others to get recognized and realistic trailer boat access points on Lake Erie to be made available for public use. A report of the trailer boat registration numbers would justify the fact they are not being considered for access to Lake Erie by all the government agencies that collect sales taxes, registration fees, gasoline excise taxes, income taxes, etc. that these users and suppliers contribute to them. If they act helpless then subsidize private operators to start up more access points. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  20. My point is the children are still supposed to be in school for the tourney dates. Walleye catching time is not the problem but family fishing time should be part of the tourney. The big money tourneys are usually won by the same high level fishermen usually and the family type operations are also rams, thank you for your contribution entry fees. The Southtown Derby is more of a any body can win with a lot of entries allowed. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  21. I noticed a "wobbling" trailer tire. Pulled over and found the inner race of the wheel bearing spinning on the axle. The auto parts store had an anaerobic locking compound, new bearing and high temperature blue disc brake bearing grease. I put this bearing on the damaged axle with the locking compound and it stuck. Drive home and then ordered and installed a new axle and bearings. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  22. The low humidity and lack of clouds allow UV rays from the sun to Penetrate the water deeper and the fish seem to go deeper where the cold water shuts down their metabolism and their desire to feed. At least that is my thoughts. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  23. Bluebird sky day? Stay home and cut the grass . Save your gasoline. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  24. The SWA tournament is too early in the season and changing the dates does not happen ever in spite of suggestions. Weekend contests where working people and children would work but those old retired coots will not move on it. The high entry fee contests limit participation so there you go. Just go fishing and have a good time. A social event is held monthly at SWA or other clubs.
  25. The walleye fishing turns on every year when the tiger lilies bloom along the Lake Erie shoreline. Just cut your grass and complete your "honey doos" , things will get better. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
