Ten color lead core is only fifty foot deep. Add a two or three ounce sinker for more depth or use a deep diver stickbait to reach near the bottom. The walleyes are down at least 70 feet. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United -

We used to get emeralds in the summer out of Huron, Ohio using lanterns floating on inner tubes out in deep water at night. Emeralds would be attracted to lanterns at night when we would be blue pike fishing. Anchor up out deep at night with lanterns over the side of your boat and maybe they will come. You can catch perch at night doing this. I did better the other day with frozen salted minnows that I caught last March and saved. They are better than golden shiners. Yesterday we went out at 2:00 PM and fished off the Seneca Windmill. Boxed out at 5:00 PM. 77 to 79 foot of water. Worm harnesses at 75 foot worked best.several fish on Renosky stick baits took several on nine colors and a dip set also. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United

The remnant hurricane winds maybe NE and blow the good dissolved oxygen water to Ohio and the cold oxygen deprived water will upwell at our end of the lake. We just have to figure it out. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United

Perch today disappeared due to offshore winds causing a cold water move near shore. We picked up 30 between two boats in 68 foot of water off the Catt. No fish on the screen from 53 to 68 foot. We went out to 77 foot and found them there along with marks at mid water. Good SW winds should return the perch near shore soon. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United

The shale has quick changing depths on your screen as you move on or off shore. When it becomes basically flat, that is the mud bottom. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United

The cool nights will bring the perch in closer now. It is a good place to start is where the shale drops off to the mud flats. The perch will feed on the mud and the shale will be like a fence herding them along as they move eastward. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United

When the lake surface water temperature drops to below 65 degrees the perch and emeralds will return to near shore and the Buffalo areas. We showed 69 degrees out there Friday. Cold nights now will help. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United

At least four boats out of the Catt boxed out with perch yesterday even with the east wind. 68 foot of water seem to be the magic depth. We had only a few from scattered pods of perch moving by occasionally off Evangola. 200 foot of anchor rode barely held bottom in the wind. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United

Perch are the answer to interesting children in fishing. Holding a fishing rod and catching a fish is fun and watching a trolling rod is boring for them. Last week deep water perching produced near limit catches with golden shiners out of the Catt. Perch are available off the Cattaraugus Creek area. One boat came in from 71 foot of water with a 100 perch limit this week. Our problem is the older bait dealers now depend on delivered golden shiners. Pin head emeralds are now available in the river, although they are small, they work better.
