Plan needed to be 5lbs more effective lol. Cool thing is I’m sure we had the most diversity as of age (possibly cultural also). My son is 9 and fish with my grandpa friend whom is 83. They both participate and get not special treatment. The kid bleeds the Walleye we eat and the Walleye get the best of him sometimes. That’s what happens when the Walleye fight back. It’s walleye blood not his.

Fished most off the week, Thursday morning had a decent bite out front. Fished 4,5,6 colors with Sticks little west of harbor. Nothing special probably a dozen fish with two over 5lbs. Friday came big fish Friday and no big fish for us to be found we covered huge amounts of water. Fished all depths and even caught eyes down deep in 45 degree water well below thermo which was at forty feet. So after boating close to 35 eyes all under 5lbs we had no plan. After beers we decided we were going to make a long run west and fish an area we are accustomed to. Friday night the wind blew 25 knots out of north east. Once we got to our spot the thermo has moved up to 32 feet. We planned on running some deep leads but quickly came out the two and three colors. At mid morning thinking about running seven color goesoff only deep rod we have goes with a 9.8 lber. 10 minutes later bam... 7lber and 8lber double on two and three color. Understanding how fishing has been I thought we needed two over 5lbs to win. Through the day we grinded and got two more good fish which we got. Last fish was a skinny 28” 6.4 lber. I thought this fish sealed the deal. We were overly confident. Big fish have been hard and I think we did 40 fish easy to get 7 over five lbs. wiegh in came along and winner wieghed in 42 lbs. we came in fourth with roughly 37.5 lbs and second big fish. The disappointment was horrible for my crew and I. Turns out the bigger fish turned on throughout the lake. I honestly thought 34 lbs would win it. Well maybe our luck will change in the sunset shootout. Ron

I think worms are a go to bait because they are extremely speed tolerant. People have the down current and wave direction mixed up in a sense. I have found after a west blow which is most of the summer you’ll find trolling into the waves to West the down current is coming from the east especially on the east end. I became a better Walleye fishermen trying to learn how to catch Lake Ontario Salmon and Browns. Water temp and speed up there rule when it comes to salmon. Browns in semi clear water require a stealth approach that is unmatched. Applying that to eye fishing on Erie has increased our catch.

We don’t use many worms but I can tell you fishing is going to be good. Water temp was 60 on top out of Dunkirk Sunday and 53 degree down 50 over 60 ft. Fish all spread throughout the water column and it’s been good. The days of waiting for the water to warm are over. Educated Walleye anglers can catch day time eyes all along the west and central and eastern basin. It’s a stigma that has been created that is completely absolutely false on the eastern end. Spread out a segmented core presentation with some good baits and start catching. One tip buy good flouro carbon not to heavy and small swivels. I don’t know how many times I have talked to Walleye guys coming in and the have a huge swivel attached to 25 lb test leader then there bait. Reduces there catch drastically

Walleye Buffalo Small Boat Harbor- 2018 Reports
RD9 replied to garrymny's topic in Lake Erie Fishing Reports
Funny story so I bought a new to me boat located in Oswego plan was to drive boat from Oswego to olcott. So we drop truck off in olcott buddy drives me and dad to boat in Oswego. We end up not leaving harbor till to 2 pm. So we finally get going all excited for the ride and a mile into our 110 mile trip there is a broke down boat. Out of all the times a little annoyed not at the broke down boaters but of the circumstances. I was like dad if we don’t tow them in we will be broke down somewhere around Rochester. We towed them back to Oswego river were a smaller boat helped bring them into dock. Made it to Olcott by dark and all was fine only issue with new to me boat needed one impeller. Every switch, pump and accessory works. Bought it seen on site so that I believe was are Karma. 95 percent of people help others in need. Teach your kids to do the same only way to eliminate these issues of inconsiderance. I must have a selfish side because if I see someone in need a few days before a tourney. I’ll drive you over trying to help someone just for the extra karma. -

Light lead means 8 lb test fluorocarbon leader. Mine are 25 ft long. Segemented core is what you have. I’m running two colors of lead core with a 8 lb test leader with mono backing. I think a lot of people prefer using worms because they can get away with heavier line at slower speeds. Later in the year we run spoons of riggers with light leads.

Walleye fishing during the day time during mid to late May. Caught a bunch yesterday. 2 color of lead over 30 ft. Had a quad with six rods going at once. Use light leads and segmented cores to fish close to bottom. Deep diving sticks work but get out fished by the segmented cores. If any old timers tell you the water to cold just nod your head. Lol. The reason people struggle to catch them during the day is there approach. The water temp only depends on were the fish are positioned fairly soon these fish will scatter on the from 20ft to 80ft

To each his own but we run three each side efficiently. We run tx22 church boards and so do many others. I have no dog in the fight. I’m just a fisherman whom tourney fish and runs as many segmented cores as anyone on Erie. I love my inlines and have no issues. Would never run a big board again.

we run up to 10 colors on church tx22 boards. We used to use big boards and switched when I bought a new boat a few years ago. Would never go back for the simple reason our landing rate is better. I also believe we deploy our spread faster and much more efficiently.

Hey guys trying to set up a trip to fish for eyes in Ohio this winter. Two or three day trip would like to stay close to launch. Any suggestions on where to go. Never been out there.
-
As of yesterday afternoon north end was open water because of the wind. That is good news. Cool temps and calm winds next few days is great news. Won't be long.

Light leader 10lb test, take the worm off and put on a small treble. Then run it at 2mph 15 ft behind ball!👍
