Chautauqua is an Iroquois word, meaning a "bag tied at the middle" (i.e., the shape of the lake), A diverse fishery that sports essentially two entirely different lakes from the north end (deeper, more clear water) to the south end (shallow, weedy basin with shoals). Walleye, muskellunge, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, perch, crappie and other panfish make up this popular body of water located south/east of Lake Erie.
