73 F degree surface waters cause walleyes to head deep. Yet high winds bring a lot of surface dissolved oxygen there. Near surface waters do not appear on your charts as those fish scoot away from your travelling boat, no matter how slow you go. At 78 degrees the walleyes will be at 75 foot deep five miles off shore soon. Then you will see them on your screen suspended looking for bait out there.

Ohio has no closed early season on sport walleye fishing. New York State should open to year round walleye fishing as ice fishing and spring fishing can continue. The walleye numbers in Ohio have no shortage and out of state license sales from New York residents for spring contests or personal use are not harming the replacement numbers. Our regulations were instituted years ago and now are need of change to the present situation. Rivers and inland lakes are open there but we have regulations that are outdated.

I have been a member for a while now but never introduced myself. I am 73 born in Jamestown TN Their mom moved her 7 kids to Muncie Indiana. I was 14 and started working in a canning factory and have worked ever since except for my 4 years in the marine corps. now and have fished almost all my life. I got my release from the Marine Corps in 76 and started salmon fishing in MI the same fall. but in the winter of 80 ice fishing for crappie, I caught my 1st walleye ever. caught it with a Johnson Century reel with a 4# line. it was so huge I thought I would never get it through the small hole. it was 29 1/2" and 9.5# I was hooked on walleye after that. fished Erie's western basin a year later and loved just drifting with the boat doing all the work. some years later, I moved to Geneva Ohio to fish the central basin for larger fish and it was amazing. got married in 71 when I was 20 and my wife was 16 and were happy and still together after all these years. I still love fishing but don't fish much as all my old fishing buddies are dead or moved away. i used to deer hunt in all ways legal but now I'm lucky to get to muzzleloader hunt for a few days. my hunting is dependent on my oldest son's hunting.

The southtowns derby was just last week, perhaps that's why everyone wasn't sharing any information.... you know, top secret stuff lol. Now that it's over, hopefully people will start sharing information more. -

I've wondered the same thing for a few years. LOU seems to have lots of guys willing to share info. A few charter Captains even do video reports for most of there days on the water. LEU seems to get very little traffic and sharing. With the Erie Walleye population being the highest its ever been I just don't get it. Do people really think someone is gonna catch fish that should have been theres ??? I miss the days when there was lots of sharing of info on the VHF radio many times with people you'd never met. Made a few long time friends with my VHF. Guess this makes me an old timer. -

I fished out of SBH yesterday for a couple hours. Caught two eaters on harnesses behind dipsys. Fished 35-40 ft deep in front of windmills. Not fast action, but still a good start to Father's day. -
Why doesn't anyone use this site to talk about fishing the Eastern end of Lake Erie. I can old post, but not much new.

Fished West, out of the Catt. yesterday morning. Started in 40 fow but the bite wasn’t on until we moved out to 62 fow and stayed steady out until 67 fow. Downriggers down between 42’ and 55’. Lead core did really well out anywhere between 7 and 10 colors. Worm harnesses did the best and the Bandit Purple Black long-A stick bait did well also. Sent from my iPad using Lake Erie United

Been a while since I post on here but haven't been fishing much this year. Fished out of buffalo yesterday noon to 7pm, tough fishing with wind/waves. Finished with 10 and one 29.5 inches. Couldnt weight in yet because everything was closed. Fished cranks and harness, both did about the same. Fish seem scattered scattered but seem best around 30-40ft. A lot of throwback, a dozen or so. Heading to Dunkirk today. Sent from my SM-S926U using Lake Erie United Mobile App
